Gunther Katz, the only child of Gertrude and Sally, was born August 17, 1929 in Mannheim, Germany. They lived in Speyer until deportation to various camps in France. Two weeks after his Bar Mitzvah, Gunther and his parents were separated. The Ĺ’uvre de Secours aux Enfants (OSE) placed him in a group home. In 1943, he was smuggled into Switzerland and placed with a foster family. After WWII, he joined a family in Philadelphia. As a speaker, he told his listeners that they had now met a man who lost thirty-five members of his family in the Holocaust, and that the Holocaust indeed happened.
