I am a child survivor from France, a hidden child in the French Ardennes. My parents perished in Auschwitz. After our family’s memorial trip to where I had been hidden by a French family, my history was finally revealed. My daughter Ellen wrote this to me: “You made me cry all over again. Thank you for being my mom. Thank you for being so brave; I will never imagine how hard it was for you to re-open the doors to such a painful past. You are my biggest hero.” Yes, my love, I have to be brave and keep speaking about the past. We have the duty to remind the world of the atrocities that were inflicted upon the Jews.
